John McGuire per Recovery and Michael Townsend per Dick both in service to government, charged with gambling and absenting themselves from the huts of the road party to which they belong.....James Gallaghar, overseer of the road party states....I saw the two prisoners yesterday throwing up farthings. They had seven or eight dumps on one side and a shirt and jacket on the other. They were evidently gambling. I have a great deal of trouble with them. On Saturday they absented themselves from the huts with two others and did not return until the following morning. Patrick Nalty, one of the road party gang, corroborates the evidence of Gallaghar in respect to the gaming. John McGuire and Michael Townsend sentenced to 50 lashes each
